Protective Equipment Policy

Helmets:

Balwyn Junior Football Club was one of the first clubs in the Yarra Junior Football League to make the use of helmets compulsory for players in its Under 9’s (Tackers) teams.

The Club policy, revised at a Committee meeting held in March 2007, is as follows:

Under 9’s – Helmets are compulsory for all players and are supplied by the Club

Under 10’s – Helmets are highly recommended for players and are supplied by the Club

Under 11’s – Helmets are supported, but are optional, and will be supplied by the Club on request from the Coach or Team Manager

Under 12’s and above – Helmets are supported, but are optional, and will not be supplied by the Club but can be purchased by any player wishing to use one

Helmets can be purchased from most sports stores.

Mouthguards:

Club policy is that a mouthguard must be worn by every player at all times on the football ground.  It is the parents responsibility to ensure that the mouthguard is worn.  It is not the responsiblity of the Coach or Balwyn JFC to ensure the mouthguard is worn.  If the Coach is made aware that a player is not in possesion of a mouthguard, then the Coach must not allow that child to play for the remainder of the game or until such time as they have a mouthguard to wear/use.

Mouthguards can be purchased from the Chemist or professionally fitted by your Dentist or specialised mouthguard fitters.
